Wheatgrass Addiction-The Shocking Truth

Posted by vergelimbo On 8:26 PM 20 comments

"Hello, my name is Verge and I am a Wheatgrass Junky...

I started "using" only a few short months ago, but I was hooked instantly. The green vibrant rush I felt upon imbibing the first ounce felt like a liquid dragon coursing through my toxin-ridden body. Within days, I began "growing my own", assuring myself of a quality supply. It was all downhill from there. I started with a wheatgrass growing kit, but soon outgrew that and began to "experiment" with different varieties of seeds, soil, lighting conditions, etc. Then came my quest for the ultimate Juicer to extract the vital essence and feed my ever-growing addiction. Along the way, I regret that I drew others into my dark green obsession...
Cameron S., my co-captain on The Pedalphiles Cycling Team was first to fall. Then, my friend John P. agreed to "lease" me his German-made, manual juice extractor (cerca 1977) on the proviso that he could call upon me anytime to satisfy his rekindled lust for the silky, potent elixir. Word got out...soon, Robert J. offered me his 30 year-old Champion Juicer in a similar quid pro quo arrangement. What had I unleashed!?

I found my "on-the-road" Fix at Jamba Juice

Haha That was a funny confession about your addiction but I was looking for serious info on addiction. I think it is real! Do you?

I like this blog of yours!

C

would wheatgrass juice be good with beet juice, do you suppose?

wheatgrass and beet juice? Alphabitch has the right idea! that sounds very tasty yummmmm...

Is this wheat grass made from wheat, or is it some other form? it is very green and I'm told good for you health but what if you have the wheat allergy? Is it OK or no?

Very good blog you have. I added to my favorites.

VIK

just found this regarding the benefits of beet juice. Of course the brits would have to call it 'beetroot juice.'

Suprisingly, the greens of Beets contain higher levels of vitamins and minerals than the root, so perhaps the best mix would be the entire beet+wheatgrass. I'll call this BeetGrass Juice.

carmyn: The addiction is real, the article is intended to be humorous

Alpha: I'll try the BeetGrass as soon as my new batch is grown....wanna try some?

funtime: Good to see you here what is happening with your garden/blog...I miss the great articles

Vikram: Wheatgrass is wheat, but contains no gluten, and is safe for those allergic to wheat. Glad you enjoy the blog!

VL

yes! I've been saving my beet stems and peelings and surplus greens in the freezer, to dye some fabric. I never even thought of juicing them. I gave my juicer to somebody, though.

I really enjoy reading your blog, it always has great insight. But I am very frustrated with the fact that so few people are talking about presidential candidates and their thoughts on global warming. Now that it is down to just a few candidates I would think that this would be a bigger issue.

Live Earth just picked up this topic and put out an article ( http://www.liveearth.org/news.php ) live earth is also asking why the presidential candidates are not being solicited for their stance on the issue of the climate change. I just saw a poll on www.EarthLab.com that says people care a lot about what their next leader thinks of global warming. Does anyone know of another poll or other results about this subject?

Here is the page where I saw the EarthLab poll: http://www.earthlab.com/life.aspx. This is a pretty legit website; they are endorsed by Al Gore and the alliance for climate protection and they have a carbon footprint calculator. Does anyone have a strong opinion about this like I do? No matter what your political affiliation is or who you vote for this is an important issue for our environment, our economy and for homeland security.

Is there a mad scientist out there developing a car that would run on Wheatgrass? It is an excellent choice given its potency and the speed with which it grows. In the meanwhile, I am fuelling myself daily, and ignoring the question of addiction. I mean it's not bad (addiction) if its good for you, right?

my heart goes bang bang

How about some beetroot salad and a wheatgrass chaser?

I still can't get over that crazy team name.

AHA! I just KNEW there was this enticing "green underground" out there! And the way you make it sound naughty...well, now I just HAVE to try it! (Always looking for a new vice, y'know? ;-)

Dear Vergelimbo:

Nice work with Vergelimbo. Given the current state of the environment, Mother Earth needs all the help she can get!

With that in mind, in honor of Earth Day this Tuesday, Swaptree.com, the website where you can trade the books, DVDs, CDs, and video games you have, for the ones you want, for free, will be donating $1 dollar for every trade made on Earth Day to The Sierra Club. So if getting a free book, DVD, video game or CD was not enough, now by signing up and doing a trade, you will also be donating to America’s oldest and largest environmental organization on Swaptree’s dime!

One of the main reasons we started Swaptree was to promote the idea that we should all recycle more and throw away less. After all do we really need 20 million copies of each of the Harry Potter books? Can’t we just trade and share a few hundred thousand?

In recent studies, it was estimated that every book contributes 8.85 pounds of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, while every CD or DVD contributes 2.2 pounds. Furthermore, 100,000 pounds of CDs and DVDs (and their nasty chemicals) are deposited in US landfills every month, while the book industry chops down in excess of 19 million trees yearly. Pretty frightening numbers I am sure you’ll agree. Obviously reducing the consumption of these items would have a positive impact on the environment.

On Swaptree you simply list the items that you have to trade and the items that you want and Swaptree’s two and three-way trade algorithms instantly shows you all of the items you can receive in trade. Swaptree even simplifies the mailing process, by providing you with a perfect postage label that can be printed right from your computer, so you never have to go to the post office.

Anyways, I encourage you to take a look at Swaptree, and if you like what you see, spread the word about our Earth Day promotion to your readers, friends and family. You’ll be helping the earth in more ways than one.

Below is a link to a two minute video that shows you what Swaptree is all about.

Thank you for your time, and let me know if you have any questions or would like to learn more. And keep up the good work with Vergelimbo.

Best Regards,
Mark Hexamer

Thanks for the info…. I love wheat grass shots. People are all about them where I live. I am trying to put together a list of what celebs are doing to help the environment. Ed Begley Jr. is having a sweepstakes where he flys you to Hollywood and gives you tips on how to go green ( http://www.earthlab.com/life/livingwithed/ ) Pretty crazy stuff. Obviously there are many others. Drop me a link if you have any on the top of your head. Thanks again for the info!

Hey! I'm glad I've found another wheatgrass fan! I was browsing through a bunch of green websites and blogs and I came across yours and found it very interesting. There are a bunch of others I like too, like the daily green, ecorazzi and earthlab.com. I especially like EarthLab.com’s carbon calculator (http://www.earthlab.com/signupprofile/). I find it really easy to use (it doesn’t make me feel guilty after I take it). Are there any others you would recommend? Can you drop me a link to your favorites (let me know if they are the same as mine).

I heard that wheatgrass is supposed to alkalize your body. I'm actually thinking of retailing a known wheatgrass brand. But I've never tasted it. Does it truly taste like grass and is that a good thing? Since taking it in "addiction quantities", have you felt any improvement in your health?

Thanks! Goes for the other junkies as well. I'm really interested to find out.

Hey Chris!

I found the information in Steve Meyerowitz's book "Wheatgrass-Nature's Finest Medicine" to be very thoroughly researched and well-written. Or you can check out the original wheatgrass guru- Ann Wigmore's webpage:

http://annwigmore.org

I grow my wheatgrass indoors at home in trays using organic peatmoss- like in the picture. From germination to cutting is about 7 days.

BTW: I enjoyed your blog...I may try to grow a mango from seed myself now. Thanks for the growing tips.

VL

I really was shocked by this wheat grass addiction. Do you have any medical research to prove this?
