Bird Flu Fearmongering

Posted by vergelimbo On 1:22 PM 1 comment

Try to remember back a month or so...

Can you recall the first time you heard of "Bird Flu"?
Do you remember that, initially, The Fearmongers had some difficulty selecting the universal descriptor [ie: "Brand Name"] for this new fear? Different names were bandied about for this new influenza strain, such as "asian flu", "avian influenza", "new asian menace" etc....
Well, the Fearmongers- along with the generous help of members of the MPC [Media Paranoia Complex] settled on the two-syllable title: Bird Flu.
Since that day, I suspect that I hear the expression roughly 17 times a day on my local fear pusher, WFDD- a national public radio station.

NB: As of tomorrow I will begin an actual "Bird Flu Counter" which will count the number of times I hear the term, and roughy how many minutes of fear mongering news coverage it consumes.

I think possibly enough people are sort of wondering if they should be afraid of this thing and are not commenting because they're not sure if it's really fear-mongering yet, what do you think?
